Booking and Payments

How do I make a vehicle reservation at RentaCarCozumel?

The process is completely digital. From our main page, select your pickup location, travel dates, and vehicle type. Press the search button and you will be redirected to WhatsApp where an agent will confirm availability and total price in under five minutes. You can also select a vehicle directly from our fleet and book from the vehicle card.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit and debit cards. We also accept national and international bank transfers, PayPal, and cash in Mexican Pesos (MXN) or US Dollars (USD). Payment can be made at the time of vehicle delivery or in advance, according to your preference.

Do I need to leave a deposit or guarantee?

We do not require credit card deposits or bank holds. Our zero-deposit policy is based on trust and transparency with our customers. You only need to present a valid government-issued ID and a credit or debit card as reference, with no prior charges.

Does the rate include insurance coverage?

Yes. All our rates include liability insurance, vehicle damage coverage with a minimal deductible, and 24-hour roadside assistance. There are no hidden charges or mandatory add-ons at the time of delivery. What you see in the quote is exactly what you pay.

Vehicles and Delivery

Where can I pick up and return the vehicle?

We offer delivery and pickup at four main locations: Cozumel International Airport (CZM), Cruise Port (Muelle San Miguel, Puerta Maya, SSA International Pier, Punta Langosta), your hotel or resort anywhere on the island, and downtown San Miguel de Cozumel. Delivery and return at these locations is at no additional cost.

What documents do I need to rent a car?

You need a valid driver's license (national or international), an official photo ID (passport, national ID, or equivalent), and you must be over 21 years old. Drivers aged 18 to 20 can rent with a minor additional charge. An international driver's license is not required if your license is in Spanish or English.

Are the vehicles automatic or standard?

Our entire fleet is automatic transmission. This includes everything from scooters to Jeep Wranglers and Mini Vans. We know that most of our international and national visitors prefer the comfort of an automatic transmission, especially to enjoy Cozumel's scenic drives in a relaxed manner.

Is unlimited mileage included?

Yes, absolutely. All our rentals include unlimited mileage without exception. The island of Cozumel is approximately 48 km long and 16 km wide, making it virtually impossible to exceed reasonable driving limits. Explore the entire island freely with no restrictions or distance charges.

Policies and Safety

What is the fuel policy?

We deliver the vehicle with a full tank and receive it with a full tank. If you cannot fill the tank before returning, a refueling charge at local market price will apply without surcharges. There are two main gas stations on the island: one in downtown San Miguel and another on the transversal highway, both easy to locate.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations made 48 hours or more in advance are completely free, with no charges. For cancellations between 24 and 48 hours, 20% is retained as an administrative fee. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice are subject to 50% of the total rate. In all cases, our team will evaluate special circumstances such as medical emergencies or flight changes with the greatest possible flexibility.

What happens if I have an accident or damage the vehicle?

First, make sure you are in a safe location. Then contact us immediately via WhatsApp or phone. Your comprehensive insurance coverage is active and covers the majority of scenarios. Our team will guide you through the next steps, which include taking photographic evidence and, if necessary, filing a report with local authorities. We are not here to judge but to help.

Can I take the vehicle off the island?

No, our vehicles are exclusively designated for use on the island of Cozumel. Taking the vehicle on the ferry to Playa del Carmen or transporting it to any other destination is not permitted. Insurance coverage and roadside assistance only apply within Cozumel island territory.

Can I add an additional driver?

Yes. The first additional driver is free. They only need to present their valid driver's license and an official ID. For a second additional driver, a nominal daily charge applies. All registered drivers are covered by insurance identically to the main driver.

The Island and Recommendations

Is it safe to drive in Cozumel?

Extremely safe. Cozumel has a well-paved perimeter highway with clear signage. Traffic outside downtown San Miguel is practically non-existent. The maximum speed in urban areas is 40 km/h and on highways 60 km/h. It is a calm and pleasant driving experience that allows you to enjoy the coastal landscape at your leisure.

Which vehicle do you recommend for the East Side?

For touring the East Side (the famous "Otra Banda"), we recommend a Jeep Wrangler or Buggy. Although the main road is paved, many of the most spectacular beaches and viewpoints are accessed via unpaved trails. If your plan is only to drive along the coastal road without detours, a compact sedan is also suitable.

Do I need to book in advance or can I rent upon arrival?

We recommend booking at least 24 hours in advance, especially during high season (December through April) and weekends with cruise ship arrivals. During these dates, availability of popular vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler sells out quickly. Booking in advance also ensures we have your vehicle ready at your preferred delivery location.

Where can I park in downtown San Miguel?

There are free spaces on streets perpendicular to the Malecon. However, we recommend using paid public parking lots (approximately $1 USD per hour) located across from the Cruise Port or near Punta Langosta. They are safe, centrally located, and allow you to walk comfortably through the shops and restaurants downtown without worrying about your vehicle.
